A Harmonizing And Adaptogenic Evening Tonic

Evening Tonic.jpg

Promotes relaxation and harmonizes mind, body and spirit.

If you’ve read my post on 17 Tips For Deep Healing Sleep, than you know that your body does most of it’s healing during sleep. One of the most important things at the end of every day is to pull the stress out of the body. Your body is like a sponge and over the years accumulates stress. It keeps score of every infection, fight, heartbreak, and injury you’ve suffered.

As previously mentioned in this post, 98% of your stress is held in 5 areas:

  • Neck

  • Upper neck (just below the skull )

  • Mid-back

  • Chest area

  • Abdomen

Along with acupressure, gua sha, facial reflexology, foot massage and meditation (this all takes about 30 minutes), this evening adaptogenic tonic is one my favorite ways to relax and promote deep healing sleep.

Tonic Benefits

  • Harmonizes mind, body and spirit

  • Strengthens and cleanses the digestive system

  • Promotes relaxation and deep sleep

  • Support adrenals and healthy cortisol levels

Ashwagandha

Is a calming adaptogen while most adaptogens are stimulating. It’s incredibly effective for fatigue, anxiety, cloudy thinking, stress-induced insomnia and can help to re-regulate the thyroid and adrenal glands. It balances hormones, boosts immunity and supports a sense of vigour and resilience.

Reishi

A powerful mushroom that fights stress, improves sleep, boosts immunity, promotes relaxation and even is known to fight seasonal allergies.

Licorice

Benefits the HPA (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal) axis, which is our central stress response system. It is often used for adrenal fatigue by helping the body more efficiently regulating the levels of cortisol.  It can also speed up the repair of the stomach lining.

Triphala

It is a blend of 3 fruits: amla, bibitaki and haritaki. Its an antioxidant and great source of vitamin C. It acts as a general tonic, detoxifier, a light laxative, eye, skin and liver nourisher. Triphala cleanses, tonifies and strengthens the digestive system.

Magnesium

Magnesium is synonymous with relaxation but also necessary for so many other functions. It helps the liver metabolize estrogen, prevents calcium buildup in the body which can interfere with your body’s normal processes, reduces cortisol, supports energy production, healthy bones, hair, skin and nails, regulates blood pressure, regulates heart rhythm, reduces muscle cramps, helps vitamin D and calcium absorption, reduces stress, improves sleep and supports healthy cardiovascular function

Play around with different combinations or just start by using one at at time. See how your body feels. Discover each herb and its individual taste. I quite enjoy the flavours of each herb and don’t sweeten my tonic.

*If you suffer from any health imbalances, check with your health care practitioner before using herbs or supplements.

Tonic Recipe

Ingredients

I add all the herbs and magnesium first into the cup. I then slowly add the hot water. Magnesium bubbles a lot, so you’ll want to add a bit of water, stir, wait for the magnesium to settle then continue till you’ve filled your cup.

Enjoy!
