How To Cultivate The Belief That Your Body Can Heal
Every cell in our bodies listens to our thoughts
What inspired me to start my healing journey was reading Julie Piatt’s story of how she healed a golf ball sized cyst in her neck with ayurveda. This expanded me to know that it was possible to heal naturally, and that our bodies carried this innate intelligence. The key to healing is creating an environment that fosters this intelligence. This environment includes what we eat, what we listen to, who we hang around this, what we think, what we read, what we listen to and so on.
Ayurveda is a ancient Indian system of healing. Its timeless principals are based on nature and looks at how we nourish our minds, bodies and spirits. It teaches us to live life in harmony with nature’s rhythms and gets us back to our inner wisdom. I knew that if I didn’t try ayurveda, I’d regret it. So I found an ayurvedic practitioner and was instructed to follow a strict diet and herbal regiment. I followed this protocol for 2 years. The further along I ventured in this protocol the more I started to doubt whether or not it would actually heal my tumor. I stressed that the treatment wouldn’t work. I worried about paying for the treatment. I was constantly thinking and obsessing about the tumor. I had little faith in myself or in ayurveda. I was stressed.
Your body can’t heal in a stressed state.
I had placed all my expectations on ‘Ayurveda’. Instead of taking full responsibility for my own health and wellbeing, I decided that it was ayurveda that would heal me. When merely, ayurveda was simply supporting my own body’s intelligence to do what it knew to do. Deep down I didn’t believe in myself or think I was worthy of such a healing. I had subconscious blocks and beliefs that it wouldn’t work. There’s often the belief in western medicine that these holistic and natural modalities don’t work and are bull shit to say the least. We live in a society where we give our powers away to our doctors, healers and health practitioners. This absolves us of actually taking responsibility and doing the work, of cleaning up our diets, educating ourselves on how our bodies work, modulating stress and learning to deeply love and accept ourselves. We override our intuition, and it’s truly our intuition that will guide us to heal.
Be mindful of your thoughts.
Well, guest what. At the end of the 2 years I discovered that my tumor grew. A lot. It taught me a very important lesson. You can eat the healthiest food and take all the herbs, but if you’re stressed and don’t believe in yourself you will not achieve the desired results. It’s very important to be mindful of your thoughts. They have a tremendous impact on your physical health. Every cell in our bodies listens to our thoughts.
Your immune cells know your deepest feelings
There’s also no shame in stopping one protocol and trying something else. I had only heard of ayurveda as a means to heal naturally at that point in my journey and so I wasn’t aware that there were others way to do it. I had placed all my hopes and dreams on this one thing. Truth of the matter is there are a hundred different ways to heal. You just need to find what resonates with you. And just because one protocol worked with one person doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. So don’t give up if you’re not seeing the desired results. Rest, and try something new.
Surround yourself wth people you trust and support your journey. I told very few people of my tumor and that I was on a journey to heal holistically. This included family and close friends. I didn’t want the noise or their opinions. Because, well, their opinion of what I was doing simply didn’t matter. I didn’t want to plant any seeds of doubt in my mind. Find people who have healed themselves holistically, no matter the disease or route they took. You need to show yourself and your subconscious that yes, it can be done. And people heal themselves of extraordinary things ALL the time.
This is why I created Healing Women Series. I wanted to share with you the incredible stories of women who have healed themselves, regardless of the illness. The more you find stories that inspire you, the more you start to believe it can be done. You increase your faith in yourself and begin to relax and surrender, creating space for wholeness to enter. This is the beginning of creating that healing environment for your mind, body and soul.
Another way to change our programming around healing is through EFT (emotional freedom technique) or tapping. It is a powerful healing modality. It is a technique which combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology that works to physically alter your brain, energy system and body all at once. You work with body’s subtle energies by tapping on meridian energy or acupressure points. This allows you to clear the patterns of energy underlying any issue, problem or pain you are experiencing.
Tapping clears the patterns of energy underlying any issue.
Tap along to the following videos. See how your body feels afterwards. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to tap along daily or as often as you can. FYI, yawning during tapping is a sign that energy is shifting!
Homework
Find stories of people who have healed themselves. If you can find stories of people who have healed themselves of your particular dis-ease and that you align with (same gender, race, age, cultural background, etc.) this will prove to be even more powerful.
Listen to your intuition. Let it guide and support you. This led me to walking way from one of the top oncologist surgeons for many reasons, but mostly it didn’t feel right to work with her. Being around her felt contractive and not expansive.
Surround yourself with supportive people. Find your community. This can be in person or even online. I’ve found Instagram to be a wonderful way of curating such community.
Reprogram your subconscious beliefs. Brad Yates’ YouTube page has incredible videos for just about anything you’re struggling with. I’ve personally been tapping for several weeks and can definitely see and feel the change. There’s also Psych K and meditation.
Do your best to rest and surrender. I’m forever working on this.
