Dandelion • A powerful ally for a variety of breast conditions

A true powerhouse for breast health.

Dandelion for breast health.

Dandelion is an incredible ally for a variety of breast conditions; fibroadenomas, benign cysts, tumors, lumps, cancer, soreness, and water retention. Yes, it’s that same dandelion that you have in your backyard and is considered by most to be a weed.

During my herbal studies I often came upon dandelion but with no mention of it’s benefits for breast health. Then I came upon The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs where it mostly talked of its benefits for breast health. I felt like I had found gold. Searching for this type of information is like looking for a needle in a haystack. If you’ve been or are in a similar circumstance, regardless of the health issue, than you know. For some reason this is the information that can truly transform your health but your health care practitioner doesn’t tell you, mostly because they simply don’t know.  I wish I had known about this herb 6 years ago. Not only is plant medicine incredibly powerful but it’s also affordable. Healing yourself shouldn’t have to become an expensive undertaking.

Depending on your imbalance, dandelion root and leaf are used for different things. In the case of breast health, you’ll want to use the root most of the time. Dandelion leaf, however, is great for reducing water retention which leads to pain and swelling during your menstrual cycle.

  • Root infusion: best for breast and liver health
  • Leaf infusion: water retention
  • Tincture: This a quicker option and easy to bring with you.
  • Capsules (powdered dandelion): This a great way to consume the full herb.
  • Eat dandelion greens

Healing Infusion Recipe For Breast Health

If you’re suffering from any kind of breast health conditions and imbalances mentioned above drink the following infusion daily, 2-4 cups. This isn’t a quick fix and you should do this for a minimum of 3-6 months depending on the severity of your imbalance.  With the severity of my issues, I’ve been doing many of these remedies for well over a year.

You can keep this recipe simple by simply decocting dandelion root. Decoctions are a more powerful extraction method to get the medicinal constituents from roots, barks, twigs and berries.  You simply simmer the root in boiling water. Whereas an infusion is made like tea. The boiling water is poured into a pot or cup with some herbs and steeped.

For the following recipe, once you’ve decocted the dandelion root and the water has finished simmering and is beginning to cool, you can add nettle and violet leaf for additional benefits.

Dandelion Root - Mountain Rose Herbs

  • Dandelion root (1.5 tbsps to 750ml of water)
  • Nettle leaf (1 tsp per cup of water)
  • Violet leaf (1 tsp. per cup of water)
  • Filtered water

  • Place the dried dandelion root in a saucepan. Cover with cold water and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 20 – 30 minutes until the liquid is reduced by one third .
  • As mentioned above if you want to add nettle and violet, wait till the water has finished simmering and beginning to cool before adding them.
  • I like to fill a 1 Liter mason/canning jar and have it infuse for 4-8 hours and drink it throughout the day.

Don’t worry, it’s not as intimidating as it all seems.
